Thousands of people enjoyed the annual bonfire celebrations at Battle on Saturday. There was an extra buzz this year with the event falling on November 5 and coinciding with the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.
Bonfire societies from across Sussex formed a procession of flaming torches along the High Street. The route was extended this year to take in Caldbec Hill. The evening culminated with a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display on the Abbey Green. Brexit provided the topical theme for this year's effigy. Money collected on the night will be donated to local charities and good causes. The local bonfire season continues on Saturday November 12 at Rye.
