XTRAX mascot Mufti the monkey once again spent the day with the mayor meeting hundreds of primary school children, this time joined by an extra companion.

In the return of the Xtrax Mayor’s Challenge, mayor cllr Alan Roberts spent last Friday (September 28) racing around Hastings and St Leonards’ primary schools with his trusty sidekick Mufti, and Mufti’s new girlfriend Mifti.

The annual event is organised to raise money for the Xtrax young people’s centre.

The Mayor and the monkeys managed visited 13 primary schools meeting hundreds of pupils, joining in assemblies, watching special performances and monkeying around in the playground.

Cllr Roberts said: “The children and schools made us feel so welcome.

I have covered every inch of Hastings today chasing those cheeky monkeys but it was for such a good cause.

“A huge thank you to every one who helped raise money for the charity today.”

Sam Thomas, deputy manager of Xtrax, said: “The event raised over £1200 which is amazing.

“We want to say a huge thank you to all the schools that took part, it was a really fun day.”

The schools which took part this year were West St Leonards, St Mary Star of the Sea, Sacred Heart, All Saints, Torfield, Sandown, Chirstchurch, Churchwood, New Horizons, Red Lake, Silverdale, and St Pauls.

Last year, the then mayor cllr Kim Forward rose to the challenge with Mufti, racing around the town’s primary schools.
