PEARLY kings and queens descended on Hastings to mark the start of building work on a care home.
The pearly king of the London borough of Sutton, George Major, helped Osborne House, The Ridge, lay a foundation stone and bless the new development for people with learning disabilities.
The homeis part of a joint venture between Hastings and Sutton to replace older style NHS buildings with self-contained flats.
Funding for the work was provided by Ability Housing Association, LB Sutton, Sutton and Merton PCT as well as AF Pilbeam.
David Williams, Ability chief executive, said: “This really is something worth celebrating and we were delighted to have the pearly king here to give his blessing to these fine new homes.”
