A PEACE campaigner will be speaking about her forthcoming peace delegation to Afghanistan and solidarity peace work with non-violent activists on Monday (December 10).
Maya Evans is at The Roomz, in Western Road, St Leonards from 8pm and the talk is part of ‘2 Million Friends’, an international solidarity campaign to remember the two million Afghans who have died in fighting in Afghanistan over the last 32 years. It is being coupled with an online petition requesting the UN to call a unilateral ceasefire in Afghanistan.
Maya will speak about her work with Afghan peace makers, give an eye witness account of her last visit, which included a trip to a refugee camp, and give more details about the forthcoming peace delegation to Kabul which she is set to lead later this month.
She said: “It’s the first British peace delegation to Afghanistan since the 2001 invasion. Our aim is to bring back materials, which will aid campaigning in this country and remind British people of the forgotten war which Britain has been engaging with for the last 11 years.” The all female delegation will be travelling under the banner of Voices for Creative Non-Violence UK.
