A GROUP of street pastors from Hastings raised money for charity by walking 21 miles across the 1066 Countryside Walk on Bank Holiday Monday (May 6).
The five-strong team trekked from Rye to Hastings in aid of local good causes and Antigua street pastors.
Hastings Street Pastors is a charity set up in February 2010 and consists of more than 60 church-going volunteers from more than 20 churches.
Teams of four go out in the streets in the Old Town and town centre on Fridays and Saturdays from 10pm until after 3am, supported by a prayer team resident at Wellington Square Baptist Church.
The pastors work closely with Hastings Police and other agencies and never preach. More than 1,000 blue flip-flops have been freely given to footsore lady revellers, hundreds of bottles of water to the dehydrated and help given to the lost and vulnerable.
People can still donate towards the walk by sending cheques payable to Hastings Street Pastors. These should be mailed to the treasurer at 66 Norman Road, St Leonards-on-Sea TN38 0EJ.
Alternatively the group has recently set up a Just Giving page, courtesy of Vodafone. Text HSPG40 £2/£5/£10 to 70070, and the donation of any amount will be credited to the street pastors’ bank account.
If, for example, £10 is the amount you wish to donate then text to 70070 HSPG40 £10, making sure there is a space before the £ sign.
The Hastings Street Pastors co-ordinator, Martin West, is always up for freely giving talks and presentations of pastors’ work in town to any interested local groups.
He can be contacted on 07964 167870 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
