THE girlfriend of a photographer who lost both his legs and an arm in Afghanistan is running a gruelling marathon to raise money towards his recovery fund.

Jennie Robertson, 25, is taking part in the Liverpool Marathon in October in aid of Giles Duley, who stepped on a landmine.

The photographer, who lived in Hastings Old Town, was charting the war in Afghanistan when the accident happened in February.

Miss Robertson, who lives in Brixton in London, said: “I sent Giles an email saying I loved him just before the accident so he never received it.

“When I found out from his brother David I remember being calm but I collapsed later. Giles has been so incredibly brave and strong he has made it easier for all of us in coming to terms with his injuries.”

Mr Duley is at the military rehabilitation facility at Headley Court, near Epsom, Surrey, where he is currently undergoing gruelling, intensive physiotherapy to get walking again.

His partner is hoping to raise at least £2,000.
