TWO friends have raised almost £3,000 for good causes after catching the fundraising bug.
Andrea Lovatt, 37, of Winterbourne Close, and 35-year-old Donna Estherby-Ripley, from Jefferson Way, St Leonards, started last September when they, together with their friends and family, held a party at the Carlisle pub in memory of two of their cousins Dale Waughman and Barry Morgan.
Miss Lovatt said: “Both were close family friends who died of cancer so we held the event for Cancer Research UK, and collected £2,124.
“Dale spent his last days at St Michael’s Hospice and Barry died in the USA shortly after moving there. Both grew up in Hastings.”
The pair held a New Year’s Eve party for the hospice, raising £100.
A quiz night at the Carlisle in March also netted more than £460 for the Lymphona Research Foundation after Mrs Estherby-Ripley’s grandmother, Patricia Bazzoni died of the disease.
She said: “Both Andrea and I were chatting one evening and decided everything we did socially we would turn it into a fundraising event for charity.
“We definitely have caught the fundraising bug and its more fun than anything.”
Their next event is a Halloween party at the Carlisle on October 29.
