A CALL centre’s support for the year-long Own Grown campaign to help young people into work is beginning to reap rewards for the company.

DVS, based in Theaklen Drive in St Leonards, threw its weight behind the initiative in February when it was launched by pledging to offer internships for school and college leavers.

Sean Purdie was able to gain a paid role within the firm after doing a work experience placement. He said: “I struggled getting work due to my lack of experience so I was glad to hear that DVS wanted people for work experience. It gave me the chance to get my foot in the door and show I was right for the job.”

DVS employs more than 100 staff and handles calls ranging from fronting customer helplines to undertaking market research.

Nicky Histed, one of the management team at DVS, said: “We fully support the Own Grown programme and would encourage other employers to get involved by offering work experience placements. We take pride in the knowledge that by giving people who are struggling with that first all-important step onto the employment ladder, they are potentially helping them get the skills and experience necessary in today’s competitive employment market.”
