ONE of the most deprived areas of Hastings is set to benefit from up to £1 million worth of Lottery funding.
Ore village, Downs Farm and parts of the Ore Valley will use the money towards various projects to improve life for residents. The investment from the Big Lottery Fund comes through Big Local, a national initiative designed to invest in areas that have been previously overlooked for funding.
A new national organisation, the Local Trust, will administer Big Local working with the local community. It is expected to be set up later this year.
The aim of the programme is to enable people to identify what is important for their community and to take action to change things for the better.
Claire Power, chairman of the Ore Valley Forum, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity. We look forward to working with residents and partner organisations to make the best possible use of the money for small and big projects in deprived areas across Baird, Ore and Tressell wards. Having the money over 10 years will enable us together to make a real and lasting difference.”
