PUPILS from Seaford Primary School ran alongside Kate Steer as she collected the Olympic torch to run through Eastbourne this afternoon.

Kate, 52, from Jevington Drive, has worked as a volunteer at the school helping with the choir and the orchestra for 20 years. Over the years, she has taken children to sing in nursing homes and each year they go to the O2 to show off their talents.

Children at the Wilkinson Way school aid she “always had a laugh”, they loved her lessons and they loved being taught by her.

When Kate was picked to run the relay she said: “It’s absolutely amazing. I was stunned in the first place to be nominated and really chuffed. I was really pleased and feel honoured.

“I have got the children involved and they have a blow up torch. I have been running round the field and the children have been holding the torch.

“It is about them because they are the inspiration for me.”
