AN 18-year-old schoolgirl from the Czech Republic became the first female winner of the annual World Crazy Golf Championships held at the Hastings Adventure Golf Complex.
Last weekend (October 26 and 27), in perhaps the most extreme weather conditions the tournament has ever seen, Olivia Prokopova saw off competition from 78 players from all over the UK and Europe.
Sean Homer, chairman of the British Minigolf Association, said: “It was a brilliant event and the spirit among the players during what were some of the harshest weather conditions I’ve seen in eight years on the tour was incredible.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the players, organisers, scorers, referees, helpers and supporters who took part in the weekend, along with all the team at Hastings Adventure Golf.
“I look forward to seeing everyone again next year - hopefully without the particularly ‘crazy’ weather we had this time!”
Olivia, who has played in the event since the age of eight and who also holds the US Masters and US Open Minigolf titles, won the tournament 21 shots clear of runner-up Sean Homer, captain of the Kent Mini Golf Club. She also won the ladies title trophy.
In third-place was Finland’s Pasi Aho.
Players competed in six qualifying rounds before the top 18 went on to the final round.
