This week saw a badminton tournament in aid of National Older People’s day.

The fun tournament took place at Summerfield’s Leisure Centre and was for older people of all abilities to introduce them to sport and stay active.

Tournament winners were, in first place, Samantha Leakey and Pat Purle, second, Annmarie Hyder and Michael Wilson and in third place, John Drury and Susan Green.

Cllr Emily Westley, lead member for leisure said: “It was great to see so many people enter the tournament. The Active Hastings teams work hard to deliver a wide variety of sport sessions for all groups in the borough. Badminton sessions will continue until November so, whatever your ability, whether you enjoy a gentle knock about or are up for more of a challenge, these sessions are a great way to keep fit, and have fun!“

Active ageing offers a mixture of badminton and table tennis and sessions are held weekly at Summerfield’s Leisure Centre on Thursdays, 11am – 1pm until the 16 December. There is also badminton only session at Summerfields on Mondays 12.30 -1.30pm also until 16 December.
