Seven out of ten Brits believe picnics are a staple of the British summer and 44 per cent believe a picnic is essential to a summer day out.

The findings of the survey have been released by the bakers behind Wall’s Pastry and pork pie brand Pork Farms to find Britain’s favourite picnic hot spots and the public are being encouraged to submit their chosen picnic spot along with images to [email protected].

The survey commissioned by the brands also revealed that 53 per cent of us would choose the traditional picnic blanket as their preferred seating arrangement, while 65 per cent of us think that sandwiches are the most traditional picnic food, followed by pork pies (21 per cent) and sausage rolls (18 per cent).

Michael Holton, marketing brand manager for Wall’s Pastry and Pork Farms said: “Both brands are all about celebrating the best of British as well as promoting family time, be it the best food and ingredients or the best picnic spots to have a family picnic.

“Our search to find the UK’s favourite places to pull out the picnic blanket, savour some good food and appreciate the great outdoors will hopefully provide some inspiration for family and friends on the best spots in the UK.”

Nominations close on Monday, July 24, with the announcement of the UK’s number one picnic location to be revealed on Wednesday, July 26.
