Rainy days and Mondays
So there it was: another British Summer.
Blink and you missed it. A couple of days of sun in June. A couple more in July.
Followed by storms, rain and wind of Biblical proportions.
Accompanying this none-to-glorious weather has been the credit crunch, so we've had a generally miserable 2008 so far - although cheered a little by the Olympic success.
Unfortunately the forecast - both weather and financial - does not get better. It looks like we're riding out the storms for a while yet, and I'm no meteorologist or accountant.
Happiness is relative, of course. While the rain and the petrol prices may have conspired against us, we can choose not to feel the pinch.
Stay at home in bed! You don't have to drive or put on a mac.
Seriously though, it would be a shame if we became caught up in this media hysteria about the inches of rainfall, and how we should all be tightening our belts. Cash and sunshine are not the only factors contributing to our mood.
We were all spending too much money anyway. My 10 year-old stepdaughter proudly tells me she has a friend that has every computer games console there is available: Wii, Playstation, Xbox etc.
What's the point of that? I asked her. Surely she can only play one at a time?
Times like this, when the wind is blowing, and there's no spare cash for luxuries, are the times when we should be appreciating what is important in life: our families and friends and time spent with them -the things that are there whatever the weather, and what money can't buy.
PS This will be my last On Reflection, so thanks for reading.
