LibDem manifesto to warm frozen UK?

You must have seen them on the telly.

All those passengers at the airports – often from America it seems – lining up to say that they have 572 snow ploughs at their local airport back home, and how they can't understand why Heathrow, one of the world's busiest airports, only has 3 – or that kind of thing.

I never want to become one of those people.

Let's just be honest. The weather in the UK is often unpredictable; rarely like this in January; and so, as a country, we have been badly prepared.

Like many others, I have been struggling to get in to work over the past few days. And colleagues have managed, despite the weather, to keep crisis response health care services running.

The grit and salt shortages have been a bit alarming though...

It has been a hairy experience traversing lots of parts of the constituency. And I hope that we get a thaw, and order can be restored as soon as possible.

And amid all the weather and transport chaos, (I hope you didn't miss it?!) Nick Clegg has launched the Lib Dems' General Election campaign.

On Monday we set out our campaign priorities: fair taxes; a fair start for every child; fair, clean and local politics and a fair, green economy with jobs that last.

Britain has been let down by many of its politicians, and is rightly frustrated.

I hope that this will make for a high turnout in the forthcoming General Election, but I'm not sure that it will...

I for one will be going into the election with a clear direction and with a manifesto that is short, direct and to the point (rather like my good self!)

The Lib Dems will introduce fairer taxes by closing loopholes for the richest, introducing a tax on mansions and tax cuts of 700 for everyone else.

If you have a child at school, we promise investment to help reduce class sizes, improve discipline and develop one-to-one tuition.

Lib Dems will give you the right to sack your MP, and we are the only party committed to real change within our political system: flushing out big money and corrupt donors and reducing the number of MPs by 150.

We will rebuild the economy in every part of Britain in a way that promotes green technology and creates lasting jobs.

We will put an end to casino banking, bring back competition and support local entrepreneurs to make sure that businesses can find the money they need to grow.

The coming months are a crucial time for politics and I will be using them to focus on these four priorities.

In his speech on Monday morning, other the (better looking) Nick said this:

"David Cameron and Gordon Brown are playing the politics of the airbrush and the focus group.

"One doesn't know what he believes. The other doesn't know what to do with the power he clings to so desperately.

"I believe the country wants something different. The Liberal Democrats are different. We offer credibility where it's needed. And hope for our common future."

In my view, Nick Clegg and Vince Cable are a persuasive double act.

There really is everything to play for.
