Nurse receives award for her autism work

A NURSE who worked to support families in 1066 Country with a child or young person with autism has received a national award for her work.

Lyn Taylor, who was an Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Nurse Specialist for East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, was nominated for the Autism Education Trust’s Silver Star Award by local parent Sally Chambers.

The award recognises those who have done an outstanding job in supporting a family, child or young person with autism.

Lyn worked with Sally for more than two years providing support and guidance after Sally’s son was diagnosed with ASD.

Since the award, Lyn has left her post and is now training to be a health visitor.

Sally said: “Lyn helped me for two years following my son’s diagnosis and during this time she taught me many skills which will enable me to support my son both now and in the future.

“Lyn went way beyond what her job required, helping families across Hastings and Rother to understand diagnosis, access resources and learn skills to support them and their children on a daily basis.

“She was always so positive and took the time to treat the children as individuals.”
