AFTER only eight months together, a cheerleading team returned from a regional competition with a hoard of trophies.
The Phoenix Flyers, aged between four and 19 years-old, entered the Southern Classics cheerleading competition in Eastbourne, on November 5 and 6, and came home with three firsts, three seconds, a third, and a fourth.
Maddie Crisp, cheerleader and Assistant Coach, walked away with the ‘Leaps and Turns’ award.
The team are now officially the senior co-ed level four champions, and youth level four stunt group champions.
This means they were the most recognised team in the area, and are now looking forward to their next challenge, the Internationals, in July next year.
Coach Sarah Webber said: “A lot of people, when they first hear it is cheerleading, they think it is just jumping around with pom poms, but it is really physically demanding.”
The group trains every Sunday at The Phoenix Arts Centre, and is open to new members.
