A NEW programme geared towards helping young people make positive changes in their lives is launching at Xtrax youth centre.
SkillXtrax is a series of 15-week courses and drop-in workshops aimed at 18 to 24-year-olds, made possible by a grant from the Big Lottery Fund, of almost £300,000.
The programme will include employment skills training, CV writing, alcohol and sexual health education, creative writing, mentoring, cookery, sports and community action days in the local area.
On top of that, each course will include a five-day residential trip, which will focus on team building, empowerment, personal skills, and confidence.
Matt Christodoulou, SkillXtrax lead tutor, said: “Young people on the SkillXtrax project and courses will also be free to access everything that Xtrax offers as an organisation, such as help with housing and benefits, practically free laundry services, showers, Breakfast Club, the £1 dinners, free internet, free sexual health advice and of course, just a space to come in, relax and hang out.”
He added: “Even if you are not ready for a course like these, then why not come and visit Xtrax anyway?
“If you’re aged 16 to 24 years, come and let Xtrax help you!”
