A FLEET of new £3 million eco-friendly buses are set to be just the ticket to improve services in Hastings.

The 23 new Enviro 200 single deckers are now working on the Hastings’ Arrows bus services.

They were introduced five months earlier than anticipated due to the key role that Stagecoach will play in London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The first of the new fleet were launched by Phil Medlicott, managing director for Stagecoach in East Kent & East Sussex.

He dressed up with colleagues in costumes similar to those found on the Bayeux tapestry – which is the new fleet’s livery theme.

Stagecoach will be responsible for managing two depots in London during the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games, with 1,100 vehicles in operation including the new Enviro 200s which will be seconded to the capital during the games.

Mr Medlicott said: “The E200s have easier access for wheelchair users and people travelling with child buggies, and are more environmentally friendly with low emission engines to reduce pollution.”
