A NEW art gallery opening in the town centre is the realisation of a long-held dream of Gavin and Rachel Walker, the owners of printing company Digital Media Print.
The Trinity Gallery, is at 8 Trinity Street, in a space formerly occupied by a nightclub, and will show work in a range of media, by artists of national and international repute, as well as investing in home-grown talent.
Rachel, who will be managing the space, said: “When the F-ISH Gallery closed their doors, it was clear that there was still a need for a Gallery in this part of town. “Through our print business, we often found customers were interested in the artists’ prints that were waiting to be scanned or collected. We sensed that there was a market for the kind of accessible gallery that could be found in an ‘industrial setting’ – a bit like having a coffee shop in a bookstore.
“The opportunity to take on the building came up and we immediately felt that the space lent itself to a gallery as well as providing a new creative home for our existing print business.
“The building has been given a makeover, but we couldn’t resist keeping the glitterball!”
The gallery opens to the public on June 16, with its first exhibition “For One Night Only.”
This will be a retrospective show running for one week, featuring one submitted piece by a series of artists whose work has been produced by Digital Media Print.
There are four further exhibitions that have already been booked, with full details and dates to be released shortly.
Gavin said: “We have had lots and lots of interest. We have lots of clients from major artists to Joe public, and there isn’t another gallery in the centre of Hastings.”
He added that the plan was to set aside a certain amount of time for exhibitions by community artists, and there was the potential for a range of other uses such as for end of year shows, and by local arts students.
