Police have revealed that a park was cordoned off while officers searched for property “which might be related to a crime”.
St Leonards Gardens were cordoned off for much of the day yesterday (Tuesday May 26) while officers hunted for the mystery object.
The Force were unable to provide the Observer with any information about the incident yesterday.
However at 5pm this afternoon, Sussex Police released the following statement: “Police searched an area in St Leonards Park, St Leonards, after receiving a report on Monday (May 25) that property, the nature of which was not clear, but which might be related to crime, had been buried there recently.
“The search started in the early hours of Tuesday (May 26). Nothing was found and the search was called off on Tuesday afternoon.
“There are no current plans to resume it.
“On Tuesday morning a 35-year-old St Leonards man was arrested in Hastings on suspicion of theft and assault by beating.
“After being interviewed he was released on police bail until June 9 while enquiries continue.”
