GROUPS of singers and acoustic musicians of all descriptions are invited to take part in a free event as part of national initiative Our Big Gig.
On Sunday, July 14, the spotlight will be on Hastings as choirs, singing groups and musicians from all over East Sussex will be performing on and around The Stade, in what will be the flagship event for the south east.
Our Big Gig aims to bring communities together to celebrate their local musical talents and get more people involved in music making.
The 300 events held nationwide from July 11 to 14 will also serve as a showcase for new and existing talent.
The Hastings event is being organised by Juliet Russell, director of Vocal Explosion choir.
She said: “This is a great showcase for East Sussex musicians.
“We would like to invite choirs and acoustic music groups ranging from wind ensembles, jazz trios and string quartets, to folk acts and world musicians to perform leading up to the finale event, which will be a mass sing open to all on The Stade Open Space at 3pm.”
Between noon and 3pm, performances of between 15 and 30 minutes per group, will take place at the Jerwood Gallery, the Fishermen’s Museum, lifeboat station, and the East Hastings Sea Angling Club, both inside and on balconies.
There will be a free workshop in the Stade Hall from noon to 1pm for anyone who would like to take part in the mass sing, to learn three simple pieces.
Dende Nation will be running a free samba percussion workshop for teenagers and adults from 1.15pm to 2.30pm, also at the Stade Hall.
Juliet added: “It should be a great afternoon, so bring family and friends, maybe a picnic for the beach, or lounge in the local cafes and hear and participate in some great local music.”
Any groups of musicians or singers who would like to perform on the day should contact Juliet by Monday, July 1 by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
