Money and jewellery taken in burglary

Jewellery and cash were stolen in a burglary in St Leonards last Saturday (November 16).

Police said it happened at a house in Battle Crescent between 3.30pm and 10.30pm.

Burglars broke in through the kitchen door at the back of the property and while inside they searched the bedrooms and stole a gold ring with red stones and some cash from a wallet.

DS Jason Tuck, from Hastings Priority Crime Team, said: “The elderly victim of this burglary was shocked to return home to find that burglars had searched through her possessions.

“Now that it gets dark early consider buying a timer so that a light will automatically come on if you are out, do remember to draw your curtains though. This simple yet effective crime prevention technique may put off potential burglars.

“If you have any information, no matter how small about this matter we’d like to hear from you.”

Any witness or anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting serial 1592 of 16/11. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
