Midnight rescue for man trapped under tree

A MAN is believed to have suffered broken ribs after he fell into a ditch and became wedged under a tree late at night in woodland.

The bizarre incident happened just before midnight on Saturday (July 7) in woods at the back of Seven Acre Close off Sedlescombe Road in Hastings.

The man, who was in his 50s, had to be pulled free from the ditch by ambulance staff and firefighters from Bohemia Road station.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances involved.

Clarissa Hawthorne, of Sussex Police, said: “We received a call from South East Coast Ambulance Service around 23.59pm on July 7 reporting that they had pulled a man in his mid 50s from a ditch at the rear of Seven Acre Close. “Apparently he had become wedged under a tree and may have received some broken ribs.

“It is not being treated as suspicious so there will be no further police involvement.”
