A TEENAGE has been named south east volunteer of the year after taking part in a project to encourage youngsters to take up sport.

Michael Davies, 18, scooped top prize at The Co-operative StreetGames Awards for his work as a coach here in Hastings.

The 18-year-old leads football sessions, helping 60 young people a week.

John Downes, national volunteering programme manager for StreetGames, said: “If it wasn’t for young people like Michael, many sports projects up and down the UK wouldn’t be able to continue.”
