Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a particularly violent assault in St Leonards in which a man had two of his fingers bitten down to the bone.
The 47-year-old victim, who is local, had been in a pub with friends on Tuesday evening (June 4) when an argument started with the offender, who is described as being white and in his 50s.
After being told to leave the pub, he waited outside until the victim left and then attacked him in Norman Road. As well as biting his fingers, he tried to gouge the victim’s eyes with his fingers and punched him several times to the head.
A police spokesperson said, “This was a particularly vicious attack which left the victim with very serious injuries to his hand, requiring on-going hospital treatment.
“We are anxious to hear from anyone who witnessed what happened and would urge them to contact police as soon as possible on 101, quoting serial 0852 of 4 June. Alternatively call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
