A man from St Leonards has been ordered to pay back more than £31,000 of criminal profits from drug dealing after an investigation by Sussex Police.

Luke Morris, 32, appeared at Lewes Crown Court last Friday (January 23) where he was served with a Confiscation Order under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. On July 13, 2012 Morris was stopped by police whilst driving. Officers noticed a bundle of cash in the glove box of the car and a strong smell of cannabis comin g from the vehicle. In total 75g of cannabis was recovered. A search of Morris’ home address in Shingle Court found more than £26,000 in cash hidden in his bedroom. He was convicted following a trial at Lewes Crown Court in June 2014 and was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment which was suspended for two years and 120 hours of unpaid work. The subsequent financial investigation found that Morris has profited from his drug dealing by more than £31,000 which will have to be paid into public funds. If he fails to comply with the Confiscation Order he will sent to prison for a period of 15 months and will still be required to pay.
