Man, 49, arrested over football attack

A MAN has been arrested following a terrifying attack on a footballer player as he left the pitch.

The 49-year-old man from Battle was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm during the incident around 7.30pm last Wednesday at Horntye Park Sports Complex.

After a six-a-side match on the synthetic pitch, a 37-year-old local man was attacked from behind as he was leaving the complex.

He was hit to the head and when he fell to the floor was then kicked causing cuts and bruising.

A knife was produced and waved about by one of three men who police believe to be suspects.

The 49-year-old man was released on police bail until September 21 pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident or anyone with information which may assist with their investigation, quoting serial 1618 of 22/8 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
