A GROUP of people have been presented with certificates for achieving their NVQ Level 1 in Volunteering.
Mayor Alan Roberts congratulated the learners at the Town Hall by handing over their awards.
The qualification, delivered by Hastings Voluntary Action (HVA), allows volunteers to gain skills and knowledge through volunteering and to work towards their qualification.
Two learners from BHT Sussex Finding Futures, a St Leonards-based project providing work and learning opportunities for those not engaged in education, employment or training, achieved the NVQ Level 1 and went to the Town Hall to meet the mayor and collect their certificates.
Diane Fox and Sean White were both learners at Finding Futures and after learning new skills and gaining their confidence there have moved on to become volunteers with the support of Helen Bowler, Finding Futures tutor and Ian Rabbett, from HVA.
Diane is volunteering at Finding Futures, supporting learners with their reading and writing and helping them to work towards their own qualifications while Sean is volunteering at the Shipwreck Museum in the Old Town.
Diane said: “My confidence and self-esteem is really high now and I feel great when I think about what I have achieved.
“I would like to thank Finding Futures for the amazing service.
“Volunteering for them is just my way of saying thanks.”
Philippa White, Finding Futures manager, said: “Both Diane and Sean were learners at Finding Futures and it has been fantastic watching them learn new skills, gain qualifications and see their confidence and self-esteem grow.”
