U3A celebrates 25th anniversary

MEMBERS of Hastings and Rother U3A celebrated their 25th anniversary at Azur, Marinas Pavilion in St Leonards.

Chairman Sarah Loynes opened the celebration reminding members of the growth of the branch of the U3A from its humble beginnings in a room at Hastings Library to its present 460 members.

Members then enjoyed a varied and delightful musical programme from Gabrielle Manoukian (soprano) and Bernard Perkins (bass baritone), accompanied by Stephen Page. A raffle was held to raise funds for the Sara Lee Trust and the Fellowship of St Nicholas, which collected £500 in total. Sarah unveiled a patchwork tapestry demonstrating the skills of the U3A sewing group who have been working on it for the last 13 months. It is to be displayed at the Falmer Campus of Brighton University as part of the South Downs Project celebrations.
