TWO men who admitted stealing goods from shops have been sent to jail.

Michael Reid, 52, from Mount Pleasant Road, was convicted of three shoplifting offences.

He pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 20 and received four weeks imprisonment.

He admitted stealing alcohol and food items from three different shops in Hastings between Tuesday, April 29 and Monday, May 19.

Patrick Reville, 49, from St Georges Road, was convicted of four shoplifting offences. He pleaded guilty at Hastings Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 20 and received a sixteen week sentence.

He was convicted of stealing food and aftershave from four different shops in Hastings between Wednesday, April 2 and Friday, April 11.

PC Nick Marriott, Hastings Neighbourhood Police Team said: “These two convictions are encouraging for all shops who are members of the Shop Watch scheme.

“People with bans are recognisable to shop staff helping to make convictions possible. This is a really positive result for the town’s many shops. Please keep your eyes open for shoplifters, they will be prosecuted.”
