PLANS to reopen the full length of the Hastings to London railway line suffered a setback after a landslip under repair started moving again.
Engineers had been working around-the-clock to fix a series of landslips at Battle, Whatlington and Stonegate, caused by torrential rainfall, which led to the closure of the line between Battle and Wadhurst for a number of weeks.
Last Friday Network Rail announced that the stretch of track would re-open on Monday March 3,
Work on a major landslip at Whatlington Viaduct was due for completion over the weekend.
But just hours after making the announcement, engineers discovered on Friday night that the landslip was on the move again, delaying the reopening and leaving exasperated passengers to the mercy of bus replacement services between Battle and Robertsbridge.
As the Observer went to press yesterday (Thursday) Network Rail said it did not yet have a date for reopening the line.
