BUSINESSES, residents and charities across town are getting ready to take part in this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning today (Friday).
Each year Macmillan Cancer Support organises the fundraiser, with thousands of people holding coffee mornings across the UK.
Tom Carter, Sussex fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest fight most of us will ever face. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.
“Macmillan’s ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer in the UK, by providing them with medical, emotional, practical and financial support. By making time to get together at a coffee morning and raising money for Macmillan, you’ll be making time for Macmillan to help families affected by cancer.”
A coffee morning will be held at the town hall from 10am to noon today. There is also one at the Beach Cafe on the lower promenade in Warrior Square, St Leonards from 11am to 1pm and will be co-hosted by Sarah Owen, Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Hastings.
Hastings Windows, in Maunsell Road, St Leonards, is also holding a Macmillan coffee morning from 9am to 5pm today. There will be homemade cakes, hot sausage rolls and a sweepstake competition to guess how many coffee beans are in the jar.
Mr Carter added: “If you can’t host or go along to an event, you can still help. To donate, just go to coffee.macmillan.org.uk/donate, call 0845 602 1246 or text CAKE to 70555. One text costs £5.”
