A NEW convenience store in Ore has celebrated its launch with a donation to two Hastings school swimming pools.

Staff and pupils from both Sandown and Silverdale Schools were the guests of honour when the Tesco Express store, in Old London Road, opened last week.

Store manager, Sean Butchers and his team presented each school with a £500 cheque.

Both pools serve both their respective schools and the community, with swimming classes available for all ages out of school hours. The pools are maintained by donations and fundraising by staff, volunteers and the schools’ Parents and Teachers Associations (PTA).

Matt Jarvis, deputy headteacher at Sandown School, said: “We’re very grateful that Tesco has chosen to help our school pool. We’re currently raising funds to carry out essential building work and keep the pool open for the community.” Stuart Maclean, acting deputy head at Silverdale, said: “We’re very lucky to have our own swimming pool. This donation will certainly help towards maintaining the pool for many years to come.”
