Spectacular farewell to '˜gentle giant' Robin

Around 100 bikers headed to Hastings last Friday (February 5) to pay tribute to Robin Chandler, who passed away on January 17.

Members from clubs across Sussex joined the convoy, escorting Robin on his final ride from the Carlisle pub to Hastings Crematorium.

Robin, 50, was a much-loved character on the Sussex motorcycle scene and was the founder and president of the Pheasant Pluckers, a club which encouraged and introduced young learner riders on smaller CC bikes into the club scene, helping to ensure the longevity of Sussex biking.

Robin’s experience with bikes started at a very young age.

His mother Brenda often rode in a sidecar while she was pregnant and at 18 months old, Robin used to sit in the sidecar with his sister to go out for the Sunday papers with his dad.

Although Robin’s world was bikes, his one true love was his family.

Robin, also known as Rob to his friends, leaves behind wife Penny, daughter Jodie and his step-children Amy and Jason.

Robin introduced his stepson to the biking world and the whole family embraced the biking lifestyle.

Thanks to his encouragement and guidance, stepson Jason has just upgraded to a 125, and is determined to continue Robin’s legacy.

Friends paid loving tribute to “A gentle giant that believed in what he did and did what he believed.”
