THERE is no need to be lonely this Christmas thanks to one town centre pub.
The Tubman, Cambridge Road, is spreading the festive cheer by throwing open its doors and offering a free Christmas Day lunch to anyone who is alone or in need.
It will be open on December 25 from 3pm to 5pm, and all are welcome, including children.
The bar will be closed, though free tea, coffee and soft drinks will be served.
Landlord Paul Osmond said: “It is about much more than just feeding people, it is about getting involved.
“If you have not got anything to do on Christmas Day it is very depressing.
“It is open to anybody. If you are sitting at home alone, come and get involved.”
People and local businesses have already come forward offering help, and donations of food, though tables and chiars are still needed, along with a warming cupboard.
Sophie Barton-Hawkins, 26, is one of the volunteers who will be helping out. She said: “I spent last Christmas on my own as I had no one to spend it with.
“It was one of the lowest points of my life which is why I am so passionate about getting this heard and getting as many people who have nowhere to go on Christmas Day to come along.”
