A NEW benchmark has been set for high standards of public seating across the borough.

All benches in parks and gardens will be spruced up over the next few months.

The council in partnership with Hastings and Bexhill Wood Recycling Project are already hard at work taking away batches of seats so they can be lovingly restored to a high standard in their workshop.

One of the original founders of the recycling project, Mark Storr-Hoggins, said: “Through the council awarding us this work they are supporting much more than just a local business.

“We train and employ people who may not have had the best work experiences in the past but have now discovered the satisfaction of teamwork and the support and security this brings. When our team have spent time restoring these seats they are rewarded by seeing park users sitting on them as well as being able to use them themselves when they’re visiting the park with their own family and friends.

“It’s more than just another job, there’s a sense of pride too.” For information about H&BWRP visit: www.recyclingwood.org.uk.
