New local discount card launched in borough

A local business partnership is on a mission to save Hastings and St Leonards residents money through its shopping discount scheme.

Chris Beveridge and Alex Ntung have set up the Hastings Card which offers people the chance to save money from a wide variety of businesses.

The pair are launching a second scheme in St Leonards. Chris said: “The Council used to run a passport and leisure card scheme which stopped years ago.

“I have lived in Hastings all my life and run a foreign language school and I noticed the students had a discount card scheme and I thought, ‘I can do this!’

“We are on a mission trying to make a difference to the economics of Hastings.”

The scheme works by offering businesses a free website profile and they can choose which day they want people to be able to access the discount card for their shop.

It costs the public £10 which can soon be recouped if they use the card at local independent shops.

Chris explains: “The scheme is open to all businesses, including online and home businesses and anyone can use the card.

“The response has been fantastic. I’m discovering new places and finding hidden retail gems. We will do some pop-up events in Hastings town centre and have plans to establish a trading company and a charity.

“We want to be generous to our community and make the public aware of the scheme so they can share in the benefits.”

Once the first 1,000 cards have been sold, Chris plans to domate £1000 to the Old Town Phoenix Fund.
