National award for weight loss success

The awards were given out at leading disability care provider Care Management Group’s (CMG) annual Service User Awards, which brings together people from CMG services across the country to celebrate their successes.

This year, CMG’s Lewes Road service in Eastbourne saw three of the individuals it provides care for win awards for their inspiring achievements.

Emma Parker, Andre Swaby and Emma Yates all took to the stage to receive their awards, cheered on by proud family members and CMG staff who have supported them over the last year.

Emma Parker, who received 12 different nominations from staff and family members, won first prize in the Most Inspiring Health Outcomes category.

In the last year Emma has focused on losing weight and driven by her progress achieved a weight loss of six stone. She has also used this new found passion to inspire others to cook and eat healthily.

Andre Swaby came third in the Best Achievement in Sports and Leisure category. After winning six medals at CMG’s Annnual Athletics Day, Andre continued to pursue sporting endeavours.

He is now part of a local football team, participates in the Special Olympics at a local college and is a fantastic player in bowling and table tennis.

Finally Emma Yates won second place for Best Achievement in Paid Employment after working for the Service User Quality Checker Team.

Dan Dunman, quality support officer at CMG, said, “Emma has shown dedication and commitment and her organisational skills and willingness to learn are amazing. She continues to surprise me that she can work under pressure without any issue.”

These awards are an opportunity to highlight the success stories of individuals throughout the country.

The achievements, however large or small are hugely proud moments for all involved, and form an integral part of CMG’s commitment to ensuring its users have the platform to excel.

CMG provides residential care, supported living services and domiciliary care for people with learning disabilities and associated complex needs.

Each year it holds an awards ceremony to celebrate the successes over the last 12 months in the lives of the people it supports.

Shari Stewart, manager of CMG Lewes Road, said, “I have been working here for over ten years, and each year I continue to be astounded by the accomplishments and the courage shown by the people we provide care for.

“It is an honour to celebrate with the friends, family and staff who have lent their support and I am incredibly proud of everyone at Lewes Road.

“We look forwards to coming back next year and celebrating a host of new achievements.”
