SEVEN budding music stars of the future have been appointed as honorary musicians in residence for the local hospital trust.

Philip Benge, Carla Flack, Oliver Grainge, Pasha Milburn, Harry Plant, Isobel Richardson and Charlotte Thorkildsen were presented with certificates by High Sheriff of East Sussex, Graham Peters at a ceremony held at the Conquest Hospital last Sunday (March 9).

Among members of the audience treated to a performance by the musicians were Dame Fanny Waterman, founder and chairman of the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition and Cavalerro Romeo di Girolamo, patron for Arts in Healthcare. As musicians in residence, the youngsters will give their time free to play at the Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne DGH.

Arts in Healthcare works with health professionals in the hospital trust to integrate the arts into the healthcare services and environment for the therapeutic benefit of patients, staff and the community.

They also organise regular lunchtime music sessions at the trust’s hospitals.
