Man who died in Alexandra Park is named

A man who was found dead in a toilet block in Alexandra Park on Monday (May 19) has been named.

Damien Walker, 36, of Quarry Hill, St Leonards, is believed to have collapsed while in the men’s toilets before being found at around 11.20am.

Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene by the park’s bowling green. Paramedics tried to resuscitate Mr Walker but he was declared dead.

A Sussex Police spokesman said his death is being treated as unexplained at this stage. Kevin Boorman, council spokesman, said: “We were obviously very sorry to learn that a body of a man had been found in public toilets in Alexandra Park, and our thoughts are with his family and friends. We are obviously co-operating with our colleagues in the emergency services in their investigation into this sad death.”

The Observer would like to run a tribute piece to Mr Walker. Contact Richard Gladstone on the news desk on 01424 856786 or email richard.gladstone@jpress.co.uk
