Leylah is the new teen carnival queen

SHOP assistant Leylah Dobinson’s qualities checked out with the judges when she was crowned this year’s Old Town Carnival Queen.

The 15-year-old caught the judges eye at the annual selection evening held at East Hastings Sea Angling Association club house.

Leylah was a carnival princess last year and enjoys being involved in charity work.

This year’s carnival princesses are Hannah Burgess and Chloe Stretton, both 15.

Judges included former lifeboat coxwain Charlie Sharrod, Julie Young from Serenity Hair & Beauty, one of the event sponsors and Hastings’ Mayor, councillor Alan Roberts,

Carnival spokesman, Ion Castro, said: “The judges had a very difficult job choosing the court because the quality of applicants was so high.

“I feel confident that our new appoitnments will prove superb ambassadors for the carnival and display a positive image of the young people of our town”

This year’s carnival day will be held on August 2. The pram race will be held on July 30.
