HUNDREDS of shoppers descended on Ravenside retail park to be the first inside the smart new M&S store believed to be the first in the region to boast a cafe with stunning views across the English Channel.

The impressive looking builing opened several weeks ahead of schedule in time for the Christmas rush.

The store has created 120 new jobs and comes as a shot in the arm after the closure of the Comet store at the park last year and loss of 16 jobs.

Crowds waited in line for the official opening and cheered as store manager Robert Harford cut the ribbon and welcomed everyone to the new shop.

He said: “It’s great to finally be able to share our new store with customers.

“We are thrilled to be open.”

Among those who attended the opening were self-confessed M&S fans Des and Joan Richards, from Bexhill, who both described the store as ‘impressive’.

The 36,000 square foot branch boasts a 100-seat cafe which overlooks the sea.

It replaced the Ocean ten pin bowling complex which was closed down last year despite a wave of objections .
