Hastings scouts help to create a new ‘pocket park’

LOCAL scouts have helped turn part of Hughenden Road into a thriving pocket park.

The 3rd Hastings scout group volunteered to help clean walls, clear weeds and lay a base coat ready for a spectacular mural to be drawn by Aaron Hosannah and his team from Inspire Art.

The project has also received a boost from Asda. Asda’s Community Champion Wendy Border offered free mulch to help transform the garden.

Tim Russell from The Bohemia Walled Garden project provided the plants for the ‘dry’ bed and helped dig over the soil, mix in 10 bags of manure, plant up the bed with a selection of his plants and then top off with the mulch from Asda.

There was even mulch left over to be used on the ‘Sensory’ garden. Our appreciation goes to Tim for all of his guidance and support.

The Scouts have been busy making signs, wooden benches, tables, bird boxes and bat houses.

A big party is planned for Sunday, July 27, from 3-6pm with all welcome to celebrate the transformation of this community space. The mural and other art work planned should be completed iner the next couple of weeks.

Play dates have been planned for 4th, 11th & 18th August, from 1.30-3pm, run by Hastings Borough Council and all are welcome.

In the last few months this community space has undergone an amazing transformation.
