THE RESULTS for Hastings local election 2014 are out and Labour has retained control while UKIP has lost its only seat.

There are now 24 Labour and eight Conserative councillors in the Hastings Borough Council with UKIP losing its only seat in Ashdown ward.

Out of an electorate of 61,020, 23,184 residents cast their votes yesterday (May 22) and there was a 38.0% turnout, up from 27% in the last local election.

In his speech, Labour council leader Jeremy Birch who retained the Labour seat for Central St Leonard’s said: “Can I say in Central St Leonards we are the most mixed community in the borough and I am absolutely pleased that bigotry has been defeated.”
