The Green Party, UKIP and the Liberal Democrats all failed to win any seats on the council.

The only change was that Tory Peter Pragnell is no longer a councillor after changing wards from Conquest to Old Hastings and lost.

Labour also won back a seat on East Sussex County Council for the St Helens and Silverhill division which was left vacant after the death of Mr Hodges.

Party leader Peter Chowney hailed Labour for maintaining its highest ever share of the council and believed the vote showed the regeneration of Hastings was pleasing residents.
