FIVE outstanding Hastings youngsters are among 44 East Sussex recipients to receive the top Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Hard-working Jennifer Cottrell, Joshua Bruton, Lucia Suggitt, Matthew Suggitt and Danielle Edmunds earned their Gold Award after completing the national youth programme.

Administered locally by East Sussex County Council, the programme supports the development of young people aged 14 to 24 through volunteering, expeditions and physical accomplishments.

Recipients picked up their award during a ceremony held at Herstmonceux Castle earlier this month.
