Guerrilla community grass cutting campaign

ST HELEN’S residents and Cllr Andrew Batsford took part in a guerrilla community grass cut in Ashford Road on Saturday (May 31) to highlight the effect of government cuts on basic services. Resident William Lewes said: “We spend hours making our homes and gardens tidy and presentable and we step outside to a jungle of uncut grass. We don’t blame the local council as it supplemented three extra cuts for years but now the money’s gone and it can’t, we’re left with this!”

Cllr Batsford added: “Thank you to all those residents that came out to work so hard, this action is not directed at the grass cutting staff who do a huge job all year round, it’s directed at national government. The cuts are hitting those people who are vulnerable or have retired and deserve to be looked after with decently funded quality services.”
