STUDENTS from The Hastings Academy have planted the Jubilee flower bed outside the front gates.

Teacher Peter Avery chose nine students from years eight to 10 from the Academy Woodland Group to work alongside the head gardener of Fairlight Hall, Peter Godwin and his assistant.

Theresa Phillips, principal of The Hastings Academy, said: “Our thanks must once again go to Ore in Bloom which funded, organised and prepared for the day.

“It really is such a pleasure to drive into our school gates each morning and see the flourishing Jubilee tree and the newly planted and colourful flower bed for the whole community to enjoy.”

The students planted the Jubilee flower bed on June 12.

Sarah Kowitz, founder of Ore in Bloom, said: “Ore in Bloom is thrilled by the enthusiasm and hands on involvement of the students at The Hastings Academy.

“We hope that this will help them learn the benefits of taking pride in their community and the very British pleasure of planting a garden.”
