A RECORD number of bands have been lined up to get back to the White Rock Theatre for the 15th annual Beatles Day celebration.
The 12-hour Beatlethon will take place on Sunday, April 6 this year with 70 acts booked.
And there have been plenty of hard days nights for organiser Pete Prescott who has been working on the event since September.
And it is hard to imagine how the event has grown from a bit of fun in Pissarro’s one evening in 2000 playing Abbey Road songs with his mates.
Last year the event attracted more than 1,700 people to watch and raised £24,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. To date the event has raised more than £140,000 for the charity.
Among the acts lined up for this year’s Fab Four extravaganza are the Starrlight Beatles, who performed on the rooftop of the White Rock Hotel last year.
The last band of the evening will be the Electric Beatles from Folkestone who wowed the audience last year with their level of authenticity and ability.
“The Beatles music is a soundtrack to my life,” said Pete. “When we moved house for the first time I remember I Want To Hold Your Hand which was quite poignant at the time as I was only a young kid.
“The music still means an awful lot to people and that is demonstrated by the support we get and the amount of musicians who want to take part. I’ve got seven on the reserve list already.”
The music will start at noon and tickets are priced £10 available on the door.
